Researchers think that OCD is triggered by hyperactive circuits in the brain, which lock the sufferer in a feedback loop of negative thoughts and behaviours. Treatment often consists of using selective serotonin inhibitors to calm these circuits.  Unfortunately, these are not without side effects, often as bad as the OCD itself. I have found that many clients can be helped with movement therapy. Rhythmic Movement Training has been particularly helpful to people, many of whom report that the movements help them to stay calm and in control of their thoughts and behaviours.
